Hunza has no bad season — it has four different valleys wearing the same name. Which one you meet depends on the week you choose.
April — blossom
Apricot and cherry blossom sweeps up the valley through the first three weeks of April, starting low near Aliabad and finishing high in Gojal. It is the photographers' season and our Cherry Blossom departures sell out first. Expect cold mornings, mild days and the odd shower.
May to September — the open season
By mid-May every side road is open, Khunjerab Pass is reachable and the orchards are green. June to August brings the warmest days and the busiest bazaars; it is the right window for families, first-timers and anyone combining Hunza with Skardu over the Deosai plains. July and August can haze up in the afternoons — mornings are for mountain views.
October — gold
In the second half of October the poplars turn amber and the orchards copper. The light is low and clean, the crowds are gone, and the passes are still open on most years. It is the connoisseurs' month, and the one our own team books for themselves.
Winter Hunza — November to March — is quiet, cold and startlingly beautiful, but many hotels close and side valleys ice over. We run it as custom trips only. Tell us your dates on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly which Hunza you'll find.
